Alfred was born in 1897 and lived with his parents, John and Clara Beck at No 7 Penny Long Lane. In 1911 his occupation is given as Milk Boy.
At the outbreak of war he joined the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nott’s and Derby Regiment) as a Private, service number 70392. He was killed on the 15th October 1916 and is buried in Bancourt British Cemetery. On his headstone are the words, “Son of John and Clara Annie Beck, of 7, Penny Long Lane, Derby.”
